Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
5.0
I know that Crawdads is a total hit or miss for people, but I absolutely adored it. One of my favorite books is To Kill a Mockingbird and this book gave off a heavy TKAM vibe. Where the Crawdads Sing is about a reclusive woman named Kya who lives in a town where everybody is prejudiced against her. After the town's golden boy is killed, the town turns to blame Kya.
In the beginning of the story, you follow Kya through her childhood, giving you some background on her character and family past. While it is a bit slow in the beginning, it is totally worth it. The characterization of Kya is immaculate. The writing I also loved. The chapters were short and the style of Delia Owens's writing really just clicked with my brain.
Aside from the big plot point of Chase's murder, you also follow Kya's journey with friendship, romance, family, and her career. I really love how these are all major plot points because it added so much depth into the story and how readers were able to connect with Kya's character.
TATE! I kind of have mixed feelings on him because of the age gap between him and Kya when they first started getting involved, but I really don't know still. He was really one of those characters where you could go from loving to hating to loving him again.
Crawdads is definitely one of my favorite books I have read thus far and I am really looking forward to reading more by Delia Owens.
