Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
5.0
Science fiction with a lot of heart. Short and simple yet exceptionally dense. A book you definitely won't regret reading. But I think it'll be more rewarding to go into it without spoiling yourself on parts of the story or message and just start reading.
Something that may irk some readers though is how evident it is that this book was written in the 50s. It has archetypes, facets of the plot, and male idealisms closely associated with the cultural and social climate during that time, especially regarding family and relationships. I kind of appreciated those bits because I saw it as somewhat historical.
