Cool idea, seems like it would've been plenty for a short story instead of a short book. After the first few chapters, I was bored of nothing happening or progressing. Other reviews credited the author for maintaining a tense atmosphere throughout, but for me it just had the surreal quality of a bad dream, so I didn't care what happened.
