This book man… this book. Definitely not a 5 star for me because it just wasn’t enough to grab that from emotion or lyricism or something but a really cool experience. The lives seem so different, so I distinctly unconnected that you think “ok what could these people have in common really? How could their lives actually intertwine?” Then, in a subtle flash (yes I know how contradictory that is) it begins to happen and you see them speed towards and into each other. And the ending…. This book was really good at showing the trauma and effects of trauma on the characters, their lives, and those around them; how things change generation after generation but sort of stay the same and that both things are natural and can both be good, change and sameness; how the threads of life and community and culture and heritage can tie together people who otherwise would never meet.

I’m not exactly sure why it wasn’t a 5 star for me but it was strong enough for a 4 for sure and I would definitely read this author again.
