The Unbroken by C.L. Clark
4.0
4.5
Full of twisted politics, contradicting loyalties, and fragile relationships, The Unbroken is a powerful tale about revolution, the need to belong, and how far one is willing to go to protect their people.
I loved how the book tackled the everyday indignities of colonialism, the rightful rage in the hearts of the oppressed, and the questionable moral compasses of the conquerors. We get to see the inner workings of both sides of the revolution albeit the plot was more behind-the-scenes and living-with-consequences-after-the-fact than active fighting. I loved how both sides were depicted as flawed humans faced with decisions far larger than themselves and their principles, fueled with fear and the primal need to survive: the kind, the selfless, the powerful, the helpless, and the corrupt, they were all there and everyone had their own agenda. I can't wait to read the next.
