The 5 AM Club: Own Your Morning. Elevate Your Life. by Robin S. Sharma

2.0

I had vaguely heard of Robin Sharma and I had not read any of his other books. But, I was interested in the 5 AM Club after hearing him talk about it with Lewis Howes. I expected something COMPLETELY different than what I listened to and I’m not sure I understand the hype about this book.

I honestly feel as if this could have been a 10-page essay with all of the salient points included and none of the extra, drawn out fluff. Is the concept a good concept? Yes...get up early to get it done, but use that time for more than just “work”. Got it.

But, this “story” he concocted to present this concept? Whew! Barf worthy. The Entrepreneur, The Artist, The Spellbinder and the mentor. From using the “70s California jive talk”...”smooth cats” and “my brother” and “righteous” and “def”...terrible. Sharma spent WAY to much time trying to create an environment (the beautiful beaches and the high-end hotels and private jets and gorgeous food), than trying to explain the actual 20-20-20 concept. It was TOO much! Listening to these “cats” go on and on was like taking a slow crawl over hot lava.

It was a LOT of fluff...a LOT. Now, I don’t know if reading it would have been better or worse than listening to it. But I had to fast-forward to the end to say I finished it.

I think this book is definitely for fans of Sharma’s work because many who LOVED the book have also read his other books. I feel like he wrote this book just to say he wrote another book.

*sigh*
