Twins by Shannon Wright, Varian Johnson
4.0
E Arc provided by Edelweiss Plus.
4.5 Stars
I have been highly anticipating this graphic novel as I am a twin myself and never had read any books growing up about the struggles of being a twin (specifically have a twin sister). I felt the author really capture the inner struggle of wanting to be seen as an individual but still wanting to hold that unique connect you can only really have with a twin. I enjoyed the themes of friendship, family and facing fears, as well as the understanding of everyone is an individual and it should be celebrated. The only reason it isn’t a full 5 star for me is mainly due because I read from an digital arc copy, the first few pages are in color and the rest of the novel is not in color with some sections not being completely drawn out so at times I found myself confused on which twin was which and would get briefly lost without the details that the completed colored illustrations provided, even then Maurine and Francine looked pretty similar so I’m unsure whether that would still cause me confusion with full color.
Nonetheless, I relate to the story and the internal struggle of being a twin and growing up, I wish I had this when I was younger as It would have made a super big impact in the way I would have handle certain situations of finding my own path.
