I rated book 1 a 2.75 star, because as predictable as it was and though there are legitimate consistency gripes, it was extremely consumable. Just a really fun read, and it honestly made me curious for book 2. And this one was better! 3 stars imo.
I'm a sucker for angst, and there is a lot that the characters get into with each other in this story. I actually feel like it definitely could have been two separate novels because it's so ridiculously long, but I'm really happy it was only one. I think the plot itself in this story is TWICE as good as the first one, and where I felt like a lot of the characters in book one were basically several repeats of the same person, Yarros solidifies each one into their own pretty well in the sequel.
If you didn't completely dislike book one, I'd say book two would be a worthwhile read.
