There was supposedly an epic war where Faron saved her island, her sister Elara gave up everything to brave all dangers with her, and a young Aveline was thrust from poverty to revolutionary queen.

But all this happened BEFORE this book. You're just told that this is what happened and this is why people's relationships are the way they are and this is what they supposedly did. Why? I want to read about this! This seems epic! It has so much potential! Why not start the series there??? What is the purpose of starting the series after it? And I gotta be honest...Faron? Not it for me.

I don't know...I just couldn't get behind the tell not show plot and no relationship building because all that had supposedly happened off-page. Meh.
