Die Suche nach dem Auge der Welt by Robert Jordan

4.0

note: I watched season 1 of "Wheel of Time" before reading this book, so I was familiar with the plot and characters.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this massive book! My main complaint is that the pacing is slow - especially in the beginning and, surprisingly, the end (which I thought was rather disappointing and lengthy). I was obsessed with the story in the middle part of the book, when the group got separated and we got POVs from other characters. I loved reading from their perspectives and the frequent change between the different scenarios made it a lot more entertaining and exciting. I wish that aspect had been a thing throughout the whole book!

The writing style was very pleasant to read. Sometimes it's a bit too descriptive, but I didn't find it as intrusive as in other books. It added to the world building, which is phenomenal! I also thought that the characters were well established, multi-dimensional and had interesting traits and abilities. I also enjoyed how the relationships/friendship between the characters were portrayed. It was great how the author didn't shy away from writing rather intimate yet platonic scenes between male characters - like when Rand and Mat were sleeping huddled together because of the freezing cold. This might be just a very small detailed, but I personally very appreciate it since there's definitely a lack of portrayal of male friendships in fiction.

In general, I enjoyed the story and the characters and I'm intrigued to keep reading this series, even if it takes me a few years.
