The book begins with a series of audio files retelling the story of a book called The Twyford Code written by Edith Twyford which was found on a bus by a young boy Steve which he gave to his teacher Miss Alice Isles.   Miss Isles subsequently disappears under mysterious circumstances.  Now many years later Steve who has recently been released from prison looks back on his life and decides to seek answers to what happened to Miss Isles and the connection to the book.

I found the concept of the story really interesting as Steve begins to unravel the mystery he interviews old school friends, researches at the library and begins to draw others into his quest.  But after a while what started as an interesting idea doesn’t maintain its hold on you and I began to find the execution of the story dull.  Although there are some ultimately unexpected turn of events and it is intriguing how the narrative and the use of the audio files plays with perception of reality within the narrative I think I felt it was too little too late.
