Sometimes, you hear a song on the radio and you think "Wow, that song is such a queer anthem" (I am using the word queer to include all LGBTQ+ folks here), or you see a celebrity and you think "they are such a queer idol". We can all name those songs and those people, and what those songs and people are to us, is applicable to "Simon Vs. the Homo Sapien's Agenda". That book is THE book to read if you are getting into queer literature, whether you're queer yourself. I find that it discusses an important topic, the struggle of coming out, and it is relatable beyond no end, no matter the characters, the setting or the plot. It has lessons to learn, like that coming out is like a holy grail to (some) closeted queer folks and that you shouldn't take that grail away from them.
I wholeheartedly recommend you read "Simon Vs. the Homo Sapien's Agenda" if you are closeted and struggling to come out because this book will encourage you to do so, or if you are not closeted because there is not enough LGBTQ+ fiction out there. If you are not queer, I suggest you read this book if you want to learn how to (not) handle coming outs in your social circle.
It had me in tears, and I NEED to watch the movie and reread the book afterwards.
