In the Shadow of the Mountain: A Memoir of Courage by Silvia Vasquez-Lavado

4.0

“We do not conquer Everest, just like we do not conquer trauma. Instead, we must yield ourselves to the chasms and unexpected avalanches. Trust in the long, unknowable journey of the climb”

This was a hard but beautiful read. Will stay with me for a long time. It’s cathartic when Silvia reaches the summit and I felt the weight of her journey through the pages.

4.999999 - I had to set the book down at times because of some of the triggers and the emotions this book puts on you and I lost momentum 75% of the way through and then recovered but that’s the only reason it’s not a five star read
