Valley of the Dolls by Jacqueline Susann

Listen. This was terrible. A dumpster fire. If it had been written in 2023, easily 1 star. The misogyny, the homophobia, the fatphobia (x1000). The writing, structure, all bad. But for 1966, I'm looking past that and this rating is based on my enjoyment level.

And I actually can't believe I'm giving this 4 stars. I tried to start this book several times before giving it a full send and the shit writing stopped me every time. But once I got past the first POV switch at 40% (yes that's right, the first POV switch happens nearly midway through, lmao) I was hooked.

Genuinely an iconic, genre- and era-defining novel. Loved the ending.
