Mistletoe and Mr. Right by Sarah Morgenthaler

3.0

Not the easiest read as rich girl Lana Montgomery and divorcee Rick Harding find themselves wanting to act on their feelings but having a hard time letting go of their struggles.

As Lana struggles with the locals, after purchasing several properties in Moose Springs, there is a wild moose that’s on the loose, and to gain the favor of the locals, Lana has to catch it. But life is not easy for Lana; despite being a part of a multibillion-dollar company ruined by her parents, she struggles with the feeling of inadequacy. In addition, Rick toils with his attraction towards Lana due to his past marriage.

Even as this has a great premise, it fails to deliver. If the two of these Characters interacted with the town, which is against Lana’s presence, the connection between Lana and the town would’ve felt natural. Instead, these two find themselves magically entwined with each other. Even as they voiced the issues keeping them from committing fully to each other, it was weird. These two aren’t believable as a compatible couple. Instead, it does read as a couple that won’t last. Even as the couple becomes more intimate, they fight it because they don’t know each other. If they were better associated with the town and the town ended up meddling in their relationship, it would be an entertaining and realistic read.

It felt strange that the beginning premise of the book started with Lana feeling like a villain and finding one guy who didn’t view her as an evil outsider. Instead of Rick bringing Lana into his world instead, we focus on Rick’s struggling business, and the two of them concentrate on their setbacks.

If you’re interested in a read about a woman trying to save her haven while dealing with a power struggle within her parent’s company, who, despite finding her dream man, doesn’t have sex and gets drunk while trying to hunt down a moose, this is the book for you.
