Finding out who you are and who you came from is sometimes a challenge. Not always in identifying the people, but understanding who they were - their character.

🥛

Macon “Milkman” Dead, son of Macon Dead Jr. and Ruth Foster, brother to First Corinthians Dead and Magdalene (Called Lena) Dead; nephew to Pilate Dead and cousin to Reba and Hagar. Friend of Guitar Bains and lover of none.

🥛

During this story we follow Milkman as he learns about his family and himself. He eventually finds out when and how he was conceived, how he got his nickname, and more information that he could initially handle about the truth of his mother and fathers marriage.

Milkman sees the truth about femininity in his time, both the women who conform and rebel against the present standards. He feels jealousy first hand, from someone he thought he could trust and control from none other than his father himself.

🥛

This story is really an eye opener. It helped me to see that sometimes the best thing to do is know your family lineage early. That way you would at least know what character traits you carry or have the potential to show up. Though, I think Milkman realized that he was exactly who he was - and many of his troubles came from him being resented since birth and eventually an heir to money and status.

And he sees how seemingly every woman around him has a different level of infatuation, from nuturing, amazement, and then near deadly.
