Red Rising by Pierce Brown

5.0

5 stars for a gripping YA read that wrings your heart dry and freezes you with terror. I ended 2016 with this book with a fantastic book!

Darrow is a Red Helldiver deep beneath Mars who mines to make the planet habitable. Except after a tragic death, he learns that his people have been lied to and that Mars has been inhabited for years by Golds.
-
Undercover, Darrow must infiltrate the institute for Gold teenagers in order to gain enough power for an uprising. But Darrow isn't ready for how ruthless and hungry these Golds are.

I finally finished this book after starting in September! The writing has a blunt and eloquent quality that reminds me of Khaled Hosseini's. @piercebrownofficial creates a world that is gritty and inspiring. Scenes of hiding in dead wolves, wearing skinned scalps and amputating are not for the faint hearted!

It was amazing to see how Darrow grows from a stubborn teenager into something fierce, how he passionately loves and fiercely fights.

I can't wait to follow Darrow's adventures in Golden Son.
