Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert

3.0

If you enjoyed the previous books in the series, you’ll enjoy this one. In my opinion it’s the best book so far. There is action from the start and most of the plot lines introduced in the first two books are resolved here.

The Valentine / mortal instruments plot comes to a conclusion in a very satisfying way.

New characters who are introduced are interesting from the start.

Clarey earns the respect of the clave.

For me, the best thing about it is the end to the Clarey / Jace problem which was beginning to become a bit tedious.

There was only one downer for me: I found the conclusion of the Jocelyn’s mystical sleep storyline really abrupt after two books of trying to wake her. There is no significance to her storyline. She is only a plot device: she is absent at the right times so Clarey can live out a true YA story without the pesky parent getting in the way, and she reappears only to give a Dumbledore-sized exposition dump in the middle of the book.

Other than that, I couldn’t put it down!
