The Christmas Blessing by Melody Carlson
3.0
3 stars - I listened to a borrowed audiobook from Everand. It was narrated by Cecily White. This is difficult for me to review. The narrator was definitely not suited for this book. Her voice for the female main character sounded like a very young girl with an overly airy/breathy/ditzy voice. The narrator would be much better for children’s books or maybe fantasy. It was quite cringey. (Sorry…)
REVIEW: I’ve enjoyed many other books by this author. This book was okay but could have been better IMHO. The female main character is very naive and makes several decisions that are baffling. While I understand this is a different time from current day, I shook my head repeatedly. She makes a particularly big decision without a lot of emotion or time — twice. Then in the end, it skips past the obvious questions and resolution needed. No apologies or anything. It is like nothing happened. There are significant loose ends for the reader and I find that frustrating.
There are some really nice moments in the book but the story is not believable for me. The narrator doesn’t do this book any favours but I tried to rate it just for the story itself.
