the prose is very juvenile. mona is a somewhat sheltered character, so this makes sense.

this novel has a mostly likeable protagonist, a plot that is easy to follow, and a pretty interesting magic system. wizards in defensive baking are generally limited to the manipulation of one thing. some powers are useful in wider contexts, while some are extremely specialized (like mona's). 

if you don't like war stuff at all, i wouldn't reccommend this one, but i eat that shit up lol

there was some small stuff i didn't like, but i don't feel like detailing it here. in short, i felt that the anti-establishment message here is executed in a pretty clunky way, though i do basically agree with what it's saying. 

my final word on this: let mona say fuck!!
"it was a sea of bucking bones" is not good enough for me!!!
