I'm glad I read this after "If You Could See the Sun." This is Ann Liang's second book about academic rivals, and everything I thought was missing was definitely here.

THIS IS ACADEMIC RIVALS PEOPLE. For the past decade, these two individuals despised each other with a fiery passion, always striving to outdo one another no matter the cost. It was a battle of wills that had them on the edge of their seats, wondering who would come out on top. WE ARE HERE FOR IT.

“I really can’t stand it when people are angry at me. Like, I know it might be simple for others, but I can’t focus on anything else. I can’t just forget about it and go on with my own life. It’s like there’s something hard wedged inside my chest. I’ll always feel guilty. I’ll always want to make amends.”

This part hit home for me 🥲 I'm the type of person who tends to overthink about what others think of me and always craves words of encouragement. I don't like conflicts at all and usually catch the blame for something to avoid any arguments. So, I can definitely relate to how Sadie was feeling throughout the book. She deserves a hug after all that’s happened.

“For ten years I thought I was preparing to destroy you, when really I was preparing to love you.”

SWOONING. I love Sadie and Julius. Their banter. Their pettiness. Their camaraderie. I love them and grew so attached to this pair that I finished the book in a day because of how fast-paced it was! What a crazy ride. I can’t believe it’s over. I need more!! 💖
