Faerie Blood by Emma L. Adams

5.0

I love urban fantasy and this ticks all of my boxes.
The world was well formed and explained, believable and perfect for the story. The magic system, though a little confusing at first and not completely fleshed out yet I don't think, was well formed with a clear hierarchy as well as different strengths and weaknesses that prevented any one race/faction from being overpowered to the point of obscenity.
Ivy Lane was tough as nails and beautifully brusque, and her ability to admit to her flaws and second guess herself was a breath of fresh air in comparison to some of the lead characters of the books I've been reading lately. Mage Lord Vance Colton was proud, bossy and stubborn initially - to the point of being annoying I might add - but as the story progressed and his character was properly revealed I came to really like him (even if he was a little terrifying at times).
I would have liked to have seen and learnt more about Drake and Isabel, but given this is the start of a series I'm hopeful I'll get my wish in later books.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to getting sucked back in with the next in the series in the not too distant future.
