The Write Time by Allie Samberts
5.0
What a delight!
Although this book definitely touches on some heavy topics (please do check the content warnings), I still feel like this was an absolute joy to read. I fell in love with Jenny almost instantly, and while at first I thought Ben was going to be not-my-thing based exclusively on his appearance in The Write Place, I was very, very wrong. (Duh, I should've trusted the author here!)
There is a lot that I loved in this book, but I want to focus on something that I don't see often in romance novels, and that's how it highlights the realities of friendship. I'm no stranger to the experience of growing distant from a best friend because of a romantic relationship - whether on my end or theirs. It can be heartbreaking on either end of it, and I wish this showed up in more romance novels. I know, I know, the focus of a romance novel is the romance; I'm not saying I need it in every book all the time, it's just that this book made me realize how much I value that type of storyline. It helps the characters and the situations feel real and raw, which only increases my investment in the story as a whole.
Okay, that aside, this book has a lot of heart, A LOT of sexual tension, and a great payoff. It is absolutely wonderful!
