The Deal by Elle Kennedy

This book was so fucking cute. This is one of the best New Adult romance novels I have read so far. I read [b:Him|25686927|Him (Him #1)|Sarina Bowen|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1436433289s/25686927.jpg|45514970] by Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen a few weeks ago and I loved it, and I knew I wanted to read everything written by Elle Kennedy. This book also happens to follow a hockey player, which is another bonus because I love hockey and hockey players are so sexy. This cover is a bit misleading and makes you think it's going to be one of those new adult books that are over the top and absolutely ridiculous, but it's not. It's surprisingly deep and these characters have so much depth to them and there were a few times I got emotional. This book also had some great humor and I was laughing constantly throughout the story. Elle Kennedy is an incredible writer, and the scenes all flow so nicely.
Hannah is an awesome protagonist. She's very independent and I like how this story begins with her wanting to be with Justin and using Garret to get closer to Justin. I found it refreshing that for once in a new adult novel, Garret seemed to be falling for Hannah a lot sooner than Hannah realized she was falling for Garret. Also, Hannah is a rape victim (not a spoiler because it's mentioned on the first page) and that plays a huge role in her character obviously.Hannah hasn't been able to have an orgasm with a guy since the rape, and I love how she asks Garret to have sex with her to help her "fix herself" so that she will be able to orgasm again and that's really where it all starts with them. It just all felt so real the way Hannah and Garret started subconsciously falling for each other without even being aware of it really. I'm a sucker for love stories like that, where they don't even notice they're falling in love with each other. Garret also has demons in his past his Father used to abuse him which made his character able to relate to her. That was sweet when Garret offered to not drink that night so Hannah could drink at the bar and feel comfortable and then Hannah threw herself at him that night and he resisted her because he knew she was vulnerable. It was so sweet
I love how Hannah and Garret would binge watch Breaking Bad together because I'm obsessed with Breaking Bad and it's my all time favorite show and I've binge-watched it many times, so it was amazing and relatable to see them both wanting to watch Breaking Bad all the time. And when all the girls in the dorm were having a Ryan Gosling movie marathon! That sounds freaking great because I love Ryan Gosling and I love all of his movies haha.
Garret won me over from the beginning. He is so funny, and cocky in a funny way, and sweet and protective and alskjlaks I adored him. All the drama and issues that take place later in the book never felt cliche or unrealistic to me because it was written so well. That scene when they went to Garret's Dad's place for Thanksgiving was so sad. They could all tell his new girlfriend Cindy was being abused and his dad threatening him to leave Hannah. His Dad is such a fucking asshole. I couldn't believe half the shit he was saying. I also loved seeing Garret defend her against that asshole who defended Hannah's rapist in court. He punched him after he called Hannah a slut and it was wonderful. Garret has this fear that his temper is going to be as bad as his Dad's one day but I loved seeing Hannah reassure him that he is nothing like his Dad. I thought it was a little ridiculous at the end that his Dad threatened Hannah to break up with him or else he would stop paying for his college tuition even though it's realistic I guess, but it's just so crazy.
This book was really really cute and I love cute romance that actually has a lot of emotion behind it and I love hockey players. I love Elle Kennedy's writing, it's addicting and I can't wait to read more of her books. I don't think I liked this book as much as I loved [b:Him|25686927|Him (Him #1)|Sarina Bowen|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1436433289s/25686927.jpg|45514970] but I really really did love this one. I love both of them a lot. Can't wait to read the next book in this series!
