The Protégé by Brianna Hale

3.0

I quite enjoyed this book. It was definitely an interesting take on a taboo trope. The writing was good, though there were a few mistakes I picked up.

Characters: I found the main characters extremely compelling, though not very fleshed out. In my opinion, a well-written character is one that is written in 2D but feels 4D...feels almost real. These characters, to me, just remained 2D.

Character Development: There was not much character development, though I did enjoy that there was a separation between the two main characters. I think it made the story more realistic and allowed each character to learn more about themselves and grow.

Plot: Simple...but effective plot. It did not have to many frills or add-ons, but it worked. The pacing was great and it unfolded beautifully. Slightly unrealistic
Spoilerthat Lazlo was just able to pick her up and keep her as a ward
, but other than that I found the female main character's background to be perfect. Often, I find that author's overdo the female main character's struggle to the point where it's almost if not completely unrealistic that the character actually went through these experiences. This book--fortunately--does not have that.
