The Ultimate University Survival Guide by Jack Edwards
4.0
I used to be so obsessed with Jack Edwards' YouTube channel so I've heard about this book since the day it was released back in 2020 but decided to read it a little bit later when it would actually be relevant to me; and now that I'm starting university next year, I thought it was the perfect time to read it.
The advice in this book isn't anything new or groundbreaking, but what sets it apart is the author's informal style and humor. That's why I chose to read it, and it turned out to be an enjoyable read.
There's just one thing that I didn't like — which is not really considered a problem, I think. It's the fact that the book is almost exclusively made for the British education system and it sometimes becomes irrelevant to me so I had to skip a few pages, but otherwise it was such a fun read.
I'll leave you with one of my favorite passages in this book:
“College: Some universities are sub-divided into colleges, which are basically just student communities and somewhere to live in first year. It’s also what Americans call university for no apparent reason, but then again, they call courgettes zucchini and knock about with guns, so I don’t necessarily hold the US as the cornerstone of all wisdom …”
