The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
5.0
YESSSSS!! I thoroughly enjoyed The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes which follows Coriolanus Snow at a young age after he is given a District 12 tribute to mentor.
Unpopular Opinion: I loved the pacing? I feel like everything was explored, and while it could seem boring, it really set up the world! I felt like I knew everything inside and out.
The plot. THE PLOT! There was tearing up and then there was smiling. I loved Snow’s backstory, how the early Games functioned, and what Snow’s life was after the Games. Everything was done so thoroughly.
I appreciate how Suzanne Collins did not make us love Snow, although sometimes I felt like it was getting to that point. The red flags are very visible in his character, which is super important. His origin story was just *chef’s kiss*.
Here is my appreciation paragraph for Miss Lucy. DESERVED BETTER! WHAT HAPPENED TO HER? WHAT? Lucy is such a queen and her character was so good. I really preferred her other Katniss. Lucy 100% made me love this book as much as I do.
I feel like The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a thorough telling of a villain’s origin, which is why it is slow at some parts, but it is understandable as to why. I think it’s an amazing installment to The Hunger Games!
