This is the fourth book in the Rigante series and is set four years after the events of book three.
The story mostly follows the events surrounding Gaise Macon, the son of the Moidart, as he is embroiled in a civil war in the Varlish lands.
Having read all four Rigante books back to back I have noticed that the writing style improved with each book, immersing you more into the events and characters making each successive book a step up from the last.
I thought the ending to book three was emotionally charged, but the ending to this book was even more powerful.
If you have read the previous books you will not want to miss one.
