Be Still My Heart by Emily McIntire, Sav R. Miller
Did not finish book. Stopped at 28%.
I really wanted to like this book. mcintire and miller are superb writers and i’ve enjoyed their respective books, but this one just did not click with me.
i think it was because i had just finished ‘if we disappear here’ which is also marketed as a romantic suspense but these two books are drastically different. while there’s romance in both, it takes a backseat in iwdh whereas it’s a focal point in ‘be still my heart’. essentially, i wanted more focus on the serial killer and less focus on the romance.
sloane and lincoln also hate each other for literally no reason. i’m not the biggest fan of cop books, and the fact that sloane is a cop and lincoln a former seal is something that originally made me avoid this book. for some reason, lincoln doesn’t group himself in with cops even though they’re both part of law enforcement so he hates sloane on principle. the enemies to lovers just isn’t it, because it doesn’t make sense. they’re obviously attracted to each other and if they had met at a bar instead of an interrogation room they 1000% would’ve hooked up no questions.
it was just so irritating that for every body they found, there was a dry hump or some weird mention of tongues licking lips and lustful looks. i wanted more about the murders and less about how lincoln hasn’t gotten his dick wet in a while. much less.
