when i first saw the cover, i remember thinking “is that a GORILLA?” i don’t think i’ve ever seen a romance book set in a zoo before, so i was very intrigued to read it. and it did not disappoint.

since reading about dr. kimber’s gorilla observation book as a child, lucy rourke has been obsessed with gorilla. and now working as a primatologist at columbus zoo, her goal is to  care for the gorilla troop and… get promoted as the senior primatologist. then kai bridges, the son of her idol, came to film his wildlife documentary, but knowing he’s only in it for the ratings than the gorillas, lucy was not a big fan of him and the cameras.

there was definitely a jane goodall’s impact i felt in this book which i loved. there are moments where we can feel lucy’s connection with zuri, the gorilla, and let me tell you it was emotional i started crying it was interesting to see a glimpse into the life of a zookeeper.

this is undoubtedly a romance with comedy cs i laughed a lot, i found it funny how they kept spouting forth oddly hilarious animal facts (yes, including the pseudopenis). the banter was amazing plus with the fact that kai is dr. kimber's son aka lucy's idol aka the reason she's obsessed with gorillas. the spice was enough portion for the plot, i liked that it’s focused more on lucy and kai saving the gorillas. there was some angst and a few deeper problems to complete the story but i can't say much about it.

tropes to consider:
♡ woman in stem (learning about animals is biology = science = part of stem, you can’t argue with that)
♡ enemies to lovers
♡ friends with benefits
♡ forced proximity
♡ workplace romance

to describe this book in one word: wowza! i really enjoyed reading this book and trust me the gorillas will win your heart (please check tw)
