Curse the Dawn by Karen Chance

4.0

The fourth book in the Cassie Palmer series is Curse the Dawn. It begins with Cassie traveling back in time, trying to get a moment with former Pythia lady Phemonoe, who she calls Agnes, in an attempt to learn more about her power, that she was left completely untrained for. A fact the silver circle has missed, as they are still trying to kill her.
Mircea is doing his best to keep her sidelined from any action, much to Cassie’s disappointment. She now has several bodyguards that have taken up residence in her suite. Body guards that are trying to cover their own backside, since any slight in their babysitting detail gets them in hot water with their master.
Despite all Mircea’s effort, Cassie still finds herself in plenty of mischeif through out the series. Due to a misunderstading from a request made to a powerful statue, Cassie and Pritkin end up body swapped, to both their horror. This is the most enjoyable part of the book for me, simply because of the humor contained throughout the exchange. We also meet a new character here, named Jonas. He is the former head of the silver circle, and is quite astonished after meeting cassie (in Pritkin’s body, of course) by the extent of the corruption from the new leader. He intends to make this right, challenge the new leader for control, and get Cassie her recognition in the supernatural community as Pythia. And, as Cassie has come to expect from war mages…Jonas is a bit, insane maybe? They definetly arrive with a bang for Jonas to challenge his adversary.
During Jonas’s battle, Cassie and Prtitkin are trying to find a solution to get them back in their own bodies, just in time for Cassie’s big showdown with Apollo. I absolutely love the ending to this novel. Hilarious!
