59 Seconds: Think a Little, Change a Lot by Richard Wiseman
5.0
This little book packs a wallop. So much information in a small time and that's the point. When the author tried to tell a friend about studies that were debunking pop psychology left and right, she stopped him and said she only had "about a minute" to listen. In response, he wrote a book condensing tons of information into fifty-nine second bites. Hence the title. My favorite bit of quick wisdom? Praise your kids for hard work not for being smart or some other characteristic. For example, don't say, "I'm so proud of how smart you are because you got an 'A'." Instead, tell your child, "I'm so proud of how hard you worked to get that 'A'." Same goes for us as adults. If you want to achieve a goal, don't imagine the reward at the end. Instead, visualize yourself working hard to achieve the reward. Tons more where this came from and all based on scientific studies.
