Icebreaker by Hannah Grace
5.0
This book is the easiest five stars I could give.
Okay this book. THIS mf book. When I say I want to become a fictional character in hopes of being in the same universe as not only Nathan Hawkins but his team, I’m not lying. This book had everything you could think of - from well written spicy scenes, to moments that made you smile foolishly at your e-reader, all the way to the sweetest of romances. Ice breaker had the perfect balance between strangers to friends to lovers that had you just waiting to see what was next. And although the book felt a little long, it was such an easy book to simply get lost in.
Nathan and Anastasia (Stassie) had a dynamic that just works. Nathan is the captain of the hockey team who would do anything for his team, Stassie is a notorious planner and figure skater who has a dream to be an Olympic figure skated. The forced proximity of needing to share a rink brings these two unlikely athletes together and not only do they work, but they communicate, they voice out their thoughts, they’re there for each other and most importantly they respect boundaries.
Their relationship was so natural, they didn’t meet and fall in love right away. On the contrary Anastasia was a commitment phone, and she was honestly just so focused on achieving her life long dream. AND NATHAN UNDERSTOOD THAT! And didn’t push her to do something she wasn’t comfortable with. They talked about their feelings calmly, they listened to each other’s sides, they were patient, they were present and honestly, they did everything they could to not only work together as a team, but also just be friends. It wasn’t your usual “let’s break up over a random argument”, they actually turned to each other when the “big” conflict arose and walked through it together.
I can’t wait to see what else Hannah writes and honestly, I hope we get more glimpses of Robbie and Lo, JJ, Henry and of course Sasha.
