the ‘coffeeshop au’ trope meets the high fantasy genre.
even as someone who doesn’t read high fantasy very often, if at all, i was still so immersed in the world that baldree creates. high fantasy is such an intimidating genre, but this book was just so cozy and warm that any intimidation i usually feel at the genre compelety fvanished whilst reading.
the characters were very well developed, and i loved the inclusion of the ways the characters’ invented every-day modern items, like ACs and iced lattes - very humorously written gag, whilst not being repetitive or inauthentic.
overall, this book was just so sweet and lovely, and the plot was well-interspersed with an amazingly written fluffy coworkers to friends to lovers romance.
