Move Like Water: My Story of the Sea by Hannah Stowe
5.0
When I first saw this book, I knew immediately that I would have a deep connection to it.
Growing up in Southern California, I had daily access to a pool and visited the Pacific Ocean regularly. I became a water bug at a young age. To this day, I feel a sense of peace and calm when I am able to swim. There is something about being fully submerged and being able to hear the water surrounding me, that makes me feel true happiness in my core being.
Reading MOVE LIKE WATER made me remember what it’s like to be in the water. Hannah’s passion and love for the sea was heartwarming and inspiring. Part memoir part nature guide, this book is truly a wealth of knowledge.
Hannah has such a way with words that you’re able to place yourself in the scene with her as she describes her various adventures on and in the sea.
This book is broken up into six sections, each based on a marine creature that inspired Hannah in some way. I found this format wonderful, as she includes so much information about the creatures she studies or has a connection with. I underlined and bookmarked so many pages, so I’m looking forward to obtaining a finished copy that I can actually quote from.
After reading MOVE LIKE WATER, I feel that I have an even deeper appreciation for the sea and the marine creatures that inhabit it or rely on it in some way. The sea is something we need to protect because water connects us all!
Hannah, thank you for allowing us to follow along on your journey!
MOVE LIKE WATER is out 09/19/23! Thank you to Tin House for the ARC!
