How We Fight For Our Lives by Saeed Jones

4.0

Beautifully written and so very painful to read about Jones's violent reckoning with his homosexuality and his Blackness in a country that demonizes both. It's amazing that he packed so much into such a short book, but maybe that is because he is a poet and there were no wasted words. I also think it has one of most beautiful last chapters, especially the last line: "Our mothers are why we are here."
