Olivia and the Fairy Princesses by Ian Falconer
5.0
Olivia is back to true greatness in Olivia and the Fairy Princesses. Admittedly, any Olivia is generally better than whatever else is out there, but this one's a true gem as Olivia fumes over the large number of girls (and even a few boys) who are mad about dressing up like pink princesses (don't they know there are LOTS of kinds of princesses, she wonders). At parties, at Halloween, at ballet... all the others just seem to lack Olivia's imagination and she struggles with the fact that everyone else is so obsessed with fairy princesses and she is not (though her mother mentions that it wasn't so long ago that Olivia herself had this interest, which Olivia brushes off as something she liked when she was little). Ultimately, though, Olivia realizes that the best way to get over her irritation is just to decide what she wants for herself... and in typical Olivia fashion it tops everything.
