Assassin by KR Meera

This is definitely my favorite KR Meera book to date. The book is absolutely thrilling, but also smart. She weaves together so many current events into themes that are truly powerful, most meaningfully, demonetization, but also Kashmir, economic policy, women's rights, and the struggle for truth. She manages to bring together complex plots and characters in the form of an exhilarating detective novel inspired by the murder of Gouri Lankesh. It's a tour-de-force and really captures this moment in India.
