The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo
5.0
“i’m told to have faith / in the father / in the son / in men / and men are the first ones / to make me feel so small.”
i really loved this!! this was my second elizabeth acevedo novel and just like the first one it did not disappoint! her verse is just so stunning as always, and i love her exploration of family dynamics and catholic guilt.
i think my only problem (which is really minor) is that this book is about Xiomara finding her voice as a poet and yet whenever she performs her poetry we don’t get to see it? i just would’ve liked to read the poems she was performing. but that’s such a small issue and doesn’t really end up taking away from the book, just a me thing i think. but yeah. stunning!
