Crier's War by Nina Varela
5.0
Wow, do I even have words to describe what this book put me through?
Let's start with the premise: a world in which hyper-realistic robots (Automata, which, if you've read The Last Olympian, you're familiar with) have overthrown the human kingdoms and humans have waited nearly fifty years to strike back. Ayla, a human rebel, plans to use her newfound position as Princess Crier's handmaiden to get revenge for her family's deaths, but finds it harder and harder to betray Crier as they become closer.
It's a textburn slowburn that drove me WILD and the drama and intrigue of the rebellion was wonderfully reminiscent of my favorite YA books in middle school (think Red Queen, The Selection, and now The Cruel Prince). I couldn't put it down, and I will be waiting in earnest for Iron Heart.
