Upon a reread, this still stands up as very good YA fantasy. I love Lei as a character, although she can be frustrating at times it’s also very understandable given her setting. I love this book, love how things aren’t really made a competition between (most of) the girls and how Lei is entirely a girl’s girl. It’s refreshing when so many YA books have a female protagonist without many female friends.
