My thoughts

I was reluctant to pick this book up because of all the hype around it but I am glad I did. It surprised me. The book was fast paced and loved the fairy world. It was just the right amount dark and creepy and fun and amusing. Plot was good with ample amount of hard to predict twists. One scene in particular reminded me so much of the Red wedding scene from Game of Thrones. It was really gruesome and unexpected. I am super scared for the next book, however, the turn of events has led me to believe that the next book will lose its originality to typical YA tropes. I am really hoping that It won't.

The book started with me hating cardan for his cruelty and ended with me sympathizing for him. Jude, our main protagonist, was a little too ambitious. I didn't like her but then her character was built to be unlikable. She is a hero with questionable morals. Tayrn was stupid, annoying, spineless twin sister of Jude who did nothing except for complicating things. I loved Vivi, and I would love to know her a little more.

In conclusion, I'd say that this book deserves all the hype it is getting. Its a really good YA fantasy book. Very different and very unique. Worth the read.
