The Annotated Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
5.0
The five stars are for Austen's brilliant novel. I haven't read it in a few years, and while I knew I loved it -- for its characters, its wry humor, its impeccable structure -- I'd forgotten how much.
I'd give the annotations four stars. Many offered sociological, economic and cultural information that added nuance to the work. However, I don't need to be reminded every time Austen writes that a character "wants" something, "wants" means "lacks." For someone used to Austen's prose and vocabulary, it could get a little trying to overlook the glosses that I didn't need to read while still catching those that were useful. The side-by-side text and notes made that somewhat easier, however.
