Jade War by Fonda Lee

adventurous dark emotional tense medium-paced

5.0

“She could never be a Green Bone herself, as much as she felt she was one at heart, but she could think like a Green Bone. She was an enabler, an aide, a hidden weapon, and that was worth something.”

FIVE OUT OF FUCKING FIVE STARS!!!!

I don't know how Fonda Lee did it but she has outdone herself. Jade War starts a year or so after the events of Jade City and this time it’s more political and more intense. Second book syndrome who? We don’t know her.

I like how Jade War took us outside of Janloon and Kekon because now there are new places, new nationalities, and new cultures added to the mix. Which means *drumrolls* new enemies!!! It’s not something to be very excited about but I loved the planning, the scheming, and the execution of everything. The fight scenes were still absolute perfection and made me sit up straight because of how detailed and intense they were.

In Jade City, Kaul Hilo was my favorite. Well, he needs to move over because his sister, the very badass Kaul Shae, has taken his place. Anden and Wen are tied in second. So much has happened to these characters, I just really want to hug and feed them. They all deserve a break from everything.

It took me a while to finish because I kept putting it off for the reason that I didn’t want to read anyone of my faves dying. The logic is if I didn’t read it, it didn’t happen.
