The writing style of this story is reminiscent of an old-fashioned fairy/folk tale, but in this case is heavily influenced by Chinese culture, so events and actions tend to happen in a simplistic manner with no great detailed explanations.

If this does not sound like your cup of tea because you are more used to modern storytelling, with in-depth world-building and realistic battle scenes, you could be doing yourself a disservice by thinking it is not for you.

The beauty and charm of this novel lie in its more simplistic style, which belies an endearing story, with wonderful characters that have a richness to them that brings them alive, while the plot has a whimsical element to it, I found this to be engaging, making the whole book a delight to read.

I you want to take a break from the more serious fantasy and read something that is fun, engaging and relaxing, then I would recommend you try this.
