“Miracles are statistical improbabilities. And fate is an illusion humanity uses to comfort itself in the dark. There are no absolutes in life, save death.”

Holy. Crap. H O L Y. Crap. HOLY FREAKING CRAP! This book. This damn book. It ruined me. COMPLETELY. [b:Illuminae|23395680|Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1)|Amie Kaufman|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1443433956s/23395680.jpg|26653661] by [a:Amie Kaufman|5360335|Amie Kaufman|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1478659853p2/5360335.jpg] is a masterpiece. It is perfection. Not only is the format unique but the plot and characters are OUT OF THIS WORLD.

I'm gonna be honest I was confused for like 75% of the book. But it wasn't a bad confused if that makes sense. It had nothing to do with the writing/plot it was just unpredictable. And for those who are able to read this book in one day. H O W? No seriously please tell me because I envy you. I didn't want to miss any little detail. Which I'm glad I made myself pay extra attention because it made finishing the book so much better.

Let's start off with the plot. Since I don't trust myself to not post any major spoilers I took the synopsis off of Goodreads.

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

SPACE? AI? BATTLES? ANGST? HUMOR? ROMANCE? SIGN ME UP

I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi books. Nothing against them they just never interested me but since the format was so intriguing I had to check it out. And boy am I glad I did.

I loved how creepy the plot was. I loved how you didn't know who you can trust. I loved that when you start to think things are fine BAM! plot twist.

And the characters. Oh the characters. MY sweet fictional children. IT HAD FANTASTIC CHARACTERS! THAT WEREN'T PERFECT! THAT HAD FLAWS! THAT MESSED UP! That were strong and adorable and funny and heartbreaking.

Kady is my new favorite heroine. What a badass. And Ezra? I just love him with all my heart what a romantic goofball. And Byron. My son. That's it. Jimmy/James? My other son. I have never felt this strongly connected to characters. By the time I finished the book I was a mess.

Sadly, I have finals coming up which means I have to wait for [b:Gemina|29236299|Gemina (The Illuminae Files, #2)|Amie Kaufman|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1480097137s/29236299.jpg|44560442] and [b:Obsidio|24909347|Obsidio (The Illuminae Files, #3)|Amie Kaufman|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1501704611s/24909347.jpg|44560443]. I just want to know if my favorites get a happy ending. I want more angst. More romance. More badass moments. More human moments. Just more of them okay.

But until then I will be avoiding everything about the other books so I don't accidentally spoil them. Because I have a habit of looking them up because I'm an impatient idiot.

“Part of being alive is having life change us. The people around us, the events we live through, all of them shape us. And that's what I think you're afraid of. Maybe not of dying. But of this you, the you you've become, ceasing to exist.”
