The Beginning of Everything by Kristen Ashley
5.0
I waited forever for this book to come out in ebook because I knew it would be easy to get lost in an audible version. I am glad I waited. It seems that again, I am in the minority when it comes to books that KA fans dislike or struggle with as they seem to hold my attention the longest.
This book does start out quite hardcore. I think it was done to show how much was at stake and the direness of what would happen if this Beast is brought forward by some very repugnant and overzealous zealots (for lack of a better word.) Prior to starting this, I knew it loosely linked to the FantasyLand series. Other than that I was going in blind, so I had no idea what to expect. It did catch me off guard that rather than the usual book for each couple with an intermingled storyline that it was told from a different POV. This actually didn't hinder the storyline at all as it is clear who is speaking in each chapter and it builds on the story. I appreciated the grittiness of the story. I also did not find myself shying away from the sexual tones of the story because in my opinion they did not hinder or overpower the story because there is A LOT of story around those times. Anyone that reads KA, knows she is a detail queen.
There were glimpses of her alpha men again which I loved. I was pretty shocked by the ending but I think it had to be that way because there needed to be some angst and what-if moments. It was all going swimmingly up to that point so it would be hard if there wasn't some resistance in how this prophecy was handled in regard to the Beast rising. I can tell, I am going to enjoy this series. For anyone on the fence, I will give the same advice as I normally do. Read this book for yourself to decide if it is a book for you. Books are magic and they all have a different impact on us and therein lies their beauty.
