The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton
3.5
This book was incredibly hurricane-centered in the beginning. All about hurricanes and the damage that can reap. It was quite depressing but realistic how an entire neighborhood can be flattened in a day. Honestly, the entire story is mad depressing until the very end.
I didn't mind this book, just having the audiobook playing in the background at work. It was just the right amount of engaging for that purpose. That said, genuinely during the entire middle of the book almost nothing happens. It just has lots of words with little plots.
The parts of the book I actually liked are the scenes with the kitten and the post-apocalyptic society. It was endearing and fascinating. I wish the rest of the book went that way.
For a girl known as the Light Pirate, her powers are dramatically pushed to the side and not at all explained. It felt like a sci-fi character was placed in a dystopian book and it didn't really fit. The theme of light is much more relevant to her electrician father.
The FMC is lesbian so that was a nice bit of representation.
Overall it wasn't my style of book but I enjoyed it. I just wish more happened to keep the book engaging the entire time.
