It's Not About the Burqa by Mariam Khan

4.0

There are some really good essays in this collection; Nafisa Bakkar's On the Representation of Muslims (a must read), Afia Ahmed's The Clothes of My Life, Rafia Rafiq's Not Just a Black Woman, among others. This collection has the depth that I was missing when reading We Are Still Here by Afghan women authors. I thought that this collection had a really good range of opinions about the various issues that affect Muslim women in Britain. When I looked through GR reviews though, I was surprised to see some detractors who were very vocal about their dislike. Anyway, I found this quite a thought provoking and informative collection.
