The reason why this book is not rated higher is the format.  It’s SGJ’s ode to horror cinema, so it is written like a movie — Rapidly changing POVs with punchy, fast-paced dialogue.  Think of it as “modernist” and you’ll probably have an easier time reading it.  Heavy on horror trivia and Gen X references, so if you are not part of the culture, it may also prove difficult to follow.  Personally, I loved it! I enjoy how SGJ continues to play around with horror tropes —  this being one of his earlier efforts at slashers.  I read The Lake Witch trilogy and I Was a Teenage Slasher first.
